MTN Nigeria has alerted its customers to fraudulent online messages advertising a supposed 25GB free data package as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
The telecommunications giant, in a warning issued through its support account on X on Saturday, urged subscribers to disregard unauthorised offers and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
MTN specifically warned customers against disclosing sensitive information or making payments on websites and platforms claiming to be distributing the anniversary data bonus.
According to the company, the genuine 25GB anniversary offer can only be accessed through the MyMTN NG App and the MTN eShop.
The telco stated, “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online.
“The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.
“Do not click on links, share your personal information or make payments on any other platform claiming to offer the giveaway.”
MTN also released instructions for subscribers who are eligible for the promotion, directing them to log into the MyMTN App and select the “Redeem Now” option on the anniversary banner.
It said eligible customers could equally access the offer through the MTN eShop by following the instructions provided to activate the data bundle.
The company added that subscribers who received an SMS notification concerning the promotion could use the link contained in the message, provided it was an official MTN communication.
MTN further advised customers to depend on information published through its verified channels when seeking details about the anniversary promotion.
The company said the 25GB bundle would expire at 11:59pm on the specified expiry date, urging eligible subscribers to redeem the offer before the deadline.
The warning followed the emergence of several online posts and links falsely claiming to be connected to MTN’s anniversary data giveaway.
The telecom operator consequently advised subscribers to exercise caution and stay away from unofficial platforms requesting personal information, payments or other sensitive details in exchange for the purported free data.
