Six Islamic clerics have reportedly been abducted by bandits in Zamfara State, with their captors demanding N30 million for their release.
The clerics were said to have been kidnapped after attending a special prayer organised for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The prayer programme was reportedly organised by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West in the National Assembly and serves as Director-General of the APC campaign.
The abduction was disclosed on Tuesday by a conflict reporter, D English Alhaji, in a post shared on Facebook.
According to the reporter, the clerics were among those who participated in the prayer session before they were allegedly seized by the bandits.
He stated that the abductors had placed a N30m ransom on the victims, demanding the money in exchange for their freedom.
The reporter wrote, “These are the six Sheikhs that were abducted by bandits in Zamfara after attending special prayers session for Tinubu and APC, organised by the DG campaign for APC, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari.”
He added, “Bandits are now demanding N30 million ransom for their release.”
The latest incident adds to the spate of abductions and ransom demands linked to armed groups operating in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.
