I photographed my wife climbing fence with lover, husband tells court

A man, Adekola, has asked the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his marriage, alleging that his wife, Olaitan, was unfaithful and subjected him to repeated physical and emotional abuse.

Adekola told the court that his wife allegedly maintained relationships with other men and would return home late at night in their company whenever he travelled out of town.

The plaintiff recounted an incident in which he allegedly returned from a business trip earlier than expected, found the house empty and locked the compound gate while waiting for his wife to return.

He said Olaitan later arrived at night with another man and, upon discovering that the gate was locked, climbed over the fence into the compound with the man's assistance.

Adekola told the court that he photographed the incident and had the pictures as evidence to support his allegation of infidelity.

He also accused his wife of being troublesome, aggressive and violent, alleging that she once attacked him with a knife during an argument and on another occasion attempted to damage the windscreen of his car.

The plaintiff further alleged that Olaitan failed to support him after his business collapsed, insisting that he repay a N100,000 loan obtained from her father.

He said he sold a parcel of land to settle the debt before his wife allegedly pressured him to invest the remaining money in her business.

Adekola, who said the marriage had become unbearable, asked the court to grant him custody of their children and restrain his wife from threatening him or infringing on his privacy.

Olaitan denied the allegations but agreed to the dissolution of the marriage, while the court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case for defence.
