Eight people have been taken into custody by the Jigawa State Hisbah Board following a complaint alleging that nine individuals engaged in homosexual acts with a 22-year-old man in Kazaure Local Government Area.
The board’s Public Relations Officer, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse on Saturday.
Hadejia said the complaint was lodged by the 22-year-old resident of Kanti area in Kazaure town, who alleged that the nine suspects had engaged in sexual acts with him on separate occasions.
According to him, the complainant also claimed that he subsequently contracted HIV, which he linked to the alleged encounters, prompting him to seek the intervention of the Hisbah authorities.
He said operatives commenced investigations after receiving the complaint and had so far arrested eight of the nine persons identified by the complainant, while efforts were continuing to locate the remaining suspect.
The Hisbah spokesman added that the eight suspects allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning to having engaged in the acts complained about. He said the board had documented information and evidence gathered during the investigation for presentation before a court.
Hadejia quoted the Deputy Commander-General of the state Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, as urging parents to take greater interest in their children’s upbringing and pay attention to the company they keep.
He said the investigation remained ongoing and that the suspects would be prosecuted after the completion of the process. The Hisbah board also acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government in carrying out its duties.
