A social commentator, Prince Isaac Fayose, has criticised the choice of Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, saying the decision contributed to the Labour Party’s poor showing.
Fayose argued that Datti lacked the political weight required to complement Obi’s presidential bid, noting that he was unable to deliver his home state during the election.
The commentator made the assertion in a video posted on his official Facebook page on Monday while assessing the political developments surrounding Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Fayose, Obi’s decision to settle for Datti as his running mate in 2022 was questionable because the Labour Party’s former vice-presidential candidate was relatively unknown at the time.
He said, “Datti Ahmed is a failure. Nobody knew this man before Peter Obi picked him in 2022 as his running mate.”
Fayose also linked Datti’s recent criticism of Obi to the former Anambra State governor’s reported decision to consider Rabiu Kwankwaso for the 2027 political arrangement.
He maintained that Obi’s present running mate was more politically experienced and influential in the North than Datti, insisting that the former vice-presidential candidate failed to meet expectations during the 2023 contest.
