The accident occurred when the driver of the tipper, with registration number 19F 992FG, reportedly lost control and rammed into the motorcycle from behind.
The crash happened at about 3:18pm, prompting the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency to deploy its Eagle Response Team from Cappa to the scene following a distress call.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed the incident in a statement, saying responders arrived at the scene about 15 minutes after receiving the alert.
He said an adult male passenger on the motorcycle sustained severe injuries in the collision and was later confirmed dead.
Emergency personnel from LASEMA, the agency’s Lagos Response Unit, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the police subsequently secured the area and commenced rescue and recovery operations.
The victim’s remains were recovered from the scene and handed over to members of his family, while the damaged motorcycle and tipper were removed from the road and taken to the Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.
Oke-Osanyintolu commiserated with the victim’s family and urged motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
