A Nigerian woman, identified as Enori, has apologised for circulating an AI-generated image which falsely suggested that an itel Power Tank had exploded.
Enori had earlier posted the image on X, claiming that the portable power device exploded allegedly because it was overcharged. The post was later deleted after attracting widespread attention.
In an apology shared on social media, Enori admitted that the image was fabricated with artificial intelligence and that no such incident involving the product had occurred.
She expressed regret to itel, its customers and others who may have believed the image was genuine, saying she did not anticipate that the post would attract such attention.
Enori also acknowledged the potential impact of the claim on the company’s reputation, adding that she understood the implications of circulating false information about a brand.
She said she had deleted the post and assured the public that she would not repeat the act.
The development followed a warning from itel, which had described the purported explosion image as fabricated and cautioned against using AI-generated materials to mislead consumers or damage its reputation.
The company said it would pursue appropriate legal remedies against deliberate attempts to circulate fabricated content about its products. It added that there had been no verified report linking an itel Power Tank to the explosion depicted in the image.
