20yr-old who drinks ‘Ice’ kills father with machete

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a young man identified as Seth following the alleged killing of his father in the Pipeline area of Rumukwurushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended after residents and vigilante members raised the alarm over the death, with the police now investigating what led to the fatal confrontation between the father and son.

The incident reportedly occurred while the suspect’s mother, a teacher, was away at work. A neighbour said she returned to find the house in disarray and discovered her husband lying inside.

According to the neighbour, the woman initially thought her husband was asleep but became suspicious after noticing the condition of the house. She subsequently sought help from people in the area, who reportedly confirmed that the man was dead.

The source said the suspect allegedly locked himself inside the room where his father’s body was found, prompting vigilantes and policemen to force their way into the building.

The suspect was allegedly found with bloodstains on his hands and reportedly admitted responsibility for his father’s death. He was said to have attacked the deceased with a machete, causing multiple injuries, including wounds around the neck.

The motive for the alleged attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. However, residents said the deceased had previously confronted his son over his alleged consumption of a hard liquor popularly called Ice, which was said to have caused disagreements between them.

A neighbour said it was yet to be established whether the alleged attack followed another argument, noting that the circumstances surrounding the confrontation were still unclear.

The incident has attracted attention in the community, with a video circulating online showing the bereaved woman recounting what happened to individuals believed to be members of a local vigilante group.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect was in custody while detectives continued their investigation.

“Yes, I can confirm. The suspect in question has been arrested, while investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Agabe stated.

This version keeps the allegations attributed and substantially changes the wording, sequencing and sentence construction to reduce similarity to the source.
