The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers in public schools across the state to enable them participate in activities marking this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
The government also directed that day students in public schools remain at home on the day, as teachers join other stakeholders to commemorate the annual event.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, saying the gesture was designed to allow teachers to fully participate in the celebration.
Aderiye urged parents, guardians, students and school authorities to take note of the arrangement and make necessary preparations ahead of Monday.
The commissioner praised teachers in the state for their dedication and professionalism, particularly their efforts towards educating and nurturing children.
She said the annual celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of teachers to the development of the education sector and the future of the state.
Aderiye assured teachers that the state government would continue to acknowledge and support their contributions, while congratulating them on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
The commissioner wished teachers across Ekiti a successful celebration and urged them to remain committed to their responsibilities in shaping the lives of pupils and students.
