Ibadan woman cries out, begs Tinubu over abducted daughter, 18 others on NYSC journey

An Ibadan-based woman, Mrs Alimot Akande, has appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue her daughter and 18 other prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted while travelling to Abia State.

Akande made the appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, following the abduction of the 19 prospective corps members during their journey to their orientation camp.

The victims reportedly left Ibadan on Wednesday aboard a commercial bus and were intercepted by suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Thursday between Anambra and Abia states.

Akande said her daughter was among those on board and that the family became alarmed after receiving a brief message from her indicating that the vehicle had come under attack.

According to the distraught mother, the passengers had stopped in Onitsha at about 10pm on Wednesday before continuing their journey the following morning.

She said communication with her daughter became impossible after the message, heightening fears over the safety of the prospective corps members.

Akande appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the NYSC management, the police and other security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to locate the victims and secure their release unharmed.

She urged the authorities to treat the incident with urgency, stressing that the affected families were anxiously waiting for the safe return of their loved ones.
