A 26-year-old Ethiopian woman, Muluwork Ambaw, has claimed that she has neither eaten food nor taken water for the past 16 years, saying she lost her appetite as a child.
Ambaw, who lives in Jimma, Ethiopia, said she stopped eating at the age of 10 after repeatedly pretending to have eaten breakfast before leaving home for school.
She made the claim during an encounter with travel content creator, Drew Binsky, who visited her and documented her account of her unusual lifestyle.
According to Ambaw, her last meal was lentil stew before she suddenly stopped experiencing hunger and thirst.
She said she has since continued with her daily activities despite consuming neither food nor water.
The woman said she still prepares meals for members of her family and visitors, and grows vegetables in her garden for cooking.
However, she maintained that she has no appetite for the food she prepares.
Ambaw also claimed that she has not used the toilet for about 16 years, saying her visits to the bathroom are only for bathing.
Her account has raised further questions over how she reportedly managed during pregnancy.
She said she received glucose infusions while pregnant but was unable to breastfeed after giving birth because she did not produce breast milk, resulting in her baby being fed with formula.
Ambaw claimed that she had undergone medical examinations in Ethiopia and other countries, including India, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, but said no doctor had provided an explanation for her reported lack of appetite.
She also reportedly underwent mental health assessments in Qatar and Dubai. Despite the medical investigations, she attributed her condition to God and said she intended to continue without eating.
However, there is no independently verified scientific evidence confirming that Ambaw has lived for 16 years without food or water.
Prolonged complete deprivation of water is incompatible with established medical understanding of human survival, making her claim one that would require rigorous independent verification.
