Five arrested over destruction of Tinubu’s posters

The Kano State Police Command has arrested five persons over the alleged destruction of campaign posters and billboards belonging to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other political figures in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on security arrangements in the state and the enforcement of the ban on public horse-riding and processions.

Bakori said the suspects were apprehended following investigations into the destruction of public and private property during recent tensions linked to horse-riding activities and public processions.

He explained that the police had completed investigations into the matter and taken the suspects before the court for prosecution.

According to him, the command would not hesitate to prosecute individuals whose actions could undermine public order or threaten the peace in the state.

The arrests were linked to an incident that occurred during a public appearance by the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, on Sunday.

The police commissioner said preliminary findings showed that some persons accompanying the emir allegedly pulled down or damaged posters and billboards bearing the images of Tinubu, Governor Abba and other politicians.

Bakori said the development had added to the tension surrounding the prolonged dispute over the Kano Emirate, urging residents to refrain from actions capable of worsening the situation.

He assured residents that the police would continue to enforce the law and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable of violating public order.
