The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, over the alleged killing of her newborn son in the Jabi area of Abuja.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the incident came to light after the police received a distress call on October 4, 2026.
According to Adeh, officers from the Jabi Police Division were dispatched to a bush where an abandoned infant was reportedly found with severe injuries to the throat and abdomen.
The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but doctors reportedly confirmed that he had died.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered an investigation and directed operatives to identify and apprehend whoever was responsible.
Adeh said community members assisted the police in tracing Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi area.
Preliminary investigations, she said, indicated that Yohanna gave birth to the baby in her room on October 3 before allegedly using a razor blade to inflict the injuries that led to his death.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming that she acted because of her resentment towards the child’s father.
Yohanna remains in police custody as investigations continue, while the command said she would be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation.
