Six Ondo indigent students bag scholarship awards

A non-governmental organization, Akure Divisional Renewal Group (ADRG), has awarded scholarship to six indigent students drawn from six secondary schools in Ondo State. 

The beneficiaries of the scholarship are chiefly indigenes of Akure North, Akure South and Ifedore Local Government Areas of the State.

The students namely —Daramola Tobiloba from Ijapo High School; Oluwamodupe Mercy, Omooluorogbo Grammar School; Adeniyi Opeyemi, Ijo Mimo Oluwa High School.

Other beneficiaries —Oluwagbemiga Christiana, C.A.C Grammar School, Akure; Omoboyede Erica Ejioba High School, Oba Ile,  and Fasina Temitope, Anglican Grammar School, Ijare.

The President of the Group, Rev Chief Luyi Rotimi, FCA, while welcoming revelers and guests to the program, he said the scholarship award was instituted last year to assist indigent students and encourage them to move forward in their educational pursuits. 

While congratulating the parents of the beneficiaries and the principals of the six schools for their robust cooperation, Chief Rotimi stated that the scholarship award was the group's way of assisting the state government in order step-up the education sector. 

He said, “As a means of uniting the citizens, the schools were selected from the three local governments while criteria used were their academic performance based on the second term result for JSS3".

“As we are not expected to leave everything for the Government, it is imperative we contribute in our ways”. 

However, the President, who doubles as the Olujigba of Ijigba, urged the students to see the gesture as an opportunity to up their game academically, urging similar organizations to emulate the gesture so as to light the burden on the Govt. 

On his part, the representative of the Ministry of Education, Dr Akindele Ige,  commended the avowed determination of the organization to award scholarship to effulgent  students annually. 

The bureaucrat stressed that the group had sown a seed that will be of immense benefit to the selected Council Areas and the State at large. 

Ige added, “you are being offered a big opportunity that will help you to accomplish your goals, this is not the time to relax but rather see this scholarship award as a challenge to excel against all odds and hoping that one day you will also be privileged to give back to the society”

In the same vein, a Don, Prof. Williams Aderounmu, encouraged the parents to prioritize the education of their wards, while he urged them to stay aloof from the “education is a scam” syndrome. 

Tobiloba Daramola who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, appreciated the group for its gesture, saying the sheer magnanimity would go a long way to ease their financially burdened parents, while promising not to misuse the seldom opportunity offered to them.
