The Ondo State Government says that it will establish entrepreneurial centres for students of the secondary schools across the state to learn special skills free of charge.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Laolu Akindolire, stated this on Monday in Akure after inspecting the third term school resumption in the 2023/2024 academic session.
Akindolire said that he had started having a meeting with school administrators and managers to implement the initiative, adding that the ministry would collaborate with the Office of the Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship and Innovation to the state governor.
The commissioner said that the initiative would equip students in entrepreneurial skills so that they could have a viable career to fall back in the future.
Akindolire commended the schools visited for having a common denominator of cleanliness.
“ I am satisfied with what I have seen in the schools visited. Their compounds are neat and the student enrolment is very encouraging and satisfying.
“There is hope for our education sector and we will advance to the next level in the state,” he said.
He asked for the school administrators to be more committed to the service and live by example, show good example to the students, saying the students looked up to them.
Also speaking, Mr Okeowo Ogunleye, the Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure said that the school was well prepared for statutory duty.
Ogunleye enjoined teachers in the school to be more committed to their works, asking students to be more proactive.
He also asked parents to show great and unrelenting support to the education of their children.
In his words, Mr Habeeb Solagboye, the Senior Perfect of Oyemekun Grammar School, asked his colleagues to buckle up and be studious so that they would excel in their studies.
Other schools visited are: St. Louis Grammar School, Akure ,Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure.
