Police arraign building material dealer over alleged N7.2m fraud

The Police on Tuesday arraigned a building material dealer, Oluranti Ojedele, before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, over alleged N7.2 million fraud.

Ojedele, 49, was charged with obtaining money under false pretences and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October 2023 at Monatan area, Ibadan.

Amusan alleged that Ojedele collected Asbestos worth N7, 229, 400 from the complainant, Saheed Bayonle, on the pretext of selling it and remitting the money to Bayonle.

He said that the defendant failed to remit the money, instead converted the money to his personal use.

He said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Court President, Mrs Moji Aworemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Aworemi held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant and a Grade level 12 officer in a government establishment.

She adjourned the case until June 6 for hearing. (NAN)
