A Kano State High Court sitting on Miller Road has ordered the remand of a man, Idris Kurma, in a correctional facility for allegedly killing his wife after she refused to prepare kuli-kuli (groundnut cake) for him.
Kurma was arraigned before Justice Musa Dahiru on a charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code, according to the prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecution counsel Lamido sought time to present witnesses before the court, while the defence counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Adakawa, requested full details of the case from the prosecution.
Justice Dahiru granted the applications and adjourned the case till December 12, 2025, for further hearing.
According to the charge, Kurma, a resident of Goda in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, allegedly strangled his wife, Aisha Idris, to death after she refused to make the snack he requested.
The case has drawn public attention in the community, with residents calling for justice for the deceased.
