Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu community in Kano Suburb are in shock after unknown assailants broke into a home, killing a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son.
The woman’s husband discovered the tragedy on Saturday around 8pm when he returned from work and found the house locked.
He reportedly forced his way inside and found his wife and child lying lifeless, with their bodies burnt.
Confirming the incident, the community leader, Ahmad Sani, said residents had long constructed a police outpost in the area, but authorities allegedly refused to deploy officers.
Sani appealed to the Police Commissioner, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently intervene and protect the community.
He added that the attack has heightened fear among residents, who are worried about further violence in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said he could not comment on the incident, noting that investigations were still ongoing.
