At least three persons are feared dead while several others sustained injuries following the collapse of a building under construction in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Oba Adesida area of the city, close to the former All Progressives Congress state secretariat, throwing the neighbourhood into panic.
Emergency responders from the Ondo State Government were immediately mobilised to the scene, with officials of the State Emergency Management Agency, fire service and medical personnel carrying out rescue operations.
Eyewitnesses said the building gave way suddenly, trapping some workers and passers-by under the rubble.
Rescue efforts were still ongoing as of the time of filing this report, while the exact number of casualties could not be independently confirmed.
The appropriate authorities are expected to release more details on the cause of the collapse and the number of victims involved.
