The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has confirmed the death of two intending pilgrims in a fatal road accident along the Rimin Gado axis of the state.
The victims, identified as Alkasim Ibrahim Walawa, 48, and his mother, Hajiya Hadiza Garba, 73, were said to have died on the spot when the incident occurred on a road leading into Kano.
Sources close to the family disclosed that the deceased hailed from Walawa village in Kabo Local Government Area of the state.
Alkasim was survived by two wives and seven children, while his mother left behind five children.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Suleiman A. Dederi, the board described the incident as tragic and heartbreaking, noting that the victims were preparing to embark on the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The board prayed for the repose of their souls and asked God to grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, while also seeking strength and comfort for the bereaved families.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss. We pray that Almighty Allah forgives their shortcomings and grants them eternal rest, and also gives their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the statement read.
The board further extended its condolences to the families and associates of the deceased, urging them to remain steadfast during the period of mourning.
