Six serving members of the House of Representatives from Ondo State have lost their bids to return to the National Assembly following the All Progressives Congress primary elections held across the state on Saturday.
Results announced in the early hours of Monday by the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Ondo State, Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, showed that only three lawmakers secured the party’s tickets for another term in the Green Chamber.
Among the successful candidates was the lawmaker representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency, Ifeoluwa Ehindero, who recorded a sweeping victory with 22,304 votes.
Ehindero defeated Ibrahim Moruf Tosin, who polled 330 votes, and Oseni Oyeniyi, who secured 118 votes.
Also retaining his ticket was the member representing Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency, Dr Abiola Peter Makinde, who emerged victorious with 10,847 votes.
Makinde defeated Ade Adeniyi, who scored 2,045 votes, while Bola Fisayo garnered 1,551 votes.
In Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Dr Olumuyiwa Daramola clinched the APC ticket after polling 6,547 votes to defeat Prince Jimi Odimayo, who secured 827 votes, and Dele Omosehin, who polled 623 votes.
The Akure North/Akure South contest also produced Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji Ohwovoriole as winner after he secured 9,237 votes in a keenly contested race involving 10 aspirants.
Hon. Dennis Fadairo came second with 2,120 votes, while Hon. Bamidele Ologunloluwa polled 549 votes.
However, the exercise witnessed major upsets in some constituencies after the election committee invalidated votes cast for aspirants who were reportedly not cleared by the party’s screening committee.
In Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Dr Olusegun Victor Ategbole scored 12,011 votes but was disqualified, leading to the emergence of Hon. Adefarati Gboyega, who polled 1,865 valid votes.
A similar scenario played out in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency where Hon. Ayodeji Arowele Samuel’s 9,690 votes were voided over alleged non-clearance by the screening committee.
Following the development, Engr Kayode Ijalana, who scored 7,098 valid votes, was declared winner.
In Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye Adeyemi also had his 5,463 votes invalidated, paving the way for Rasaq Obe, who secured 4,988 valid votes, to emerge as the APC candidate.
Other winners from the exercise included Hon. Matthew Oyerimade, who won the Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency ticket with 12,744 votes, and Akingboye Akinleke David, who clinched the Ilaje/Ese-Odo ticket after polling 9,284 votes.
Speaking after the exercise, Dabibi commended party leaders and members for maintaining order during the primaries, describing the process as a demonstration of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy.
He also appealed to aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to remain united and work for the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
