A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has arraigned a 58-year-old man, Ajayi Amos, over the alleged theft of 60 kegs of palm oil valued at N3m.
The defendant was brought before the court on allegations bordering on burglary and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, the suspect allegedly committed the offence on May 16, 2026, at about 8am in Ikere-Ekiti.
Oriyomi told the court that Amos, alongside other suspects said to be at large, allegedly broke into a warehouse belonging to YSJ Limited and carted away the kegs of palm oil.
The prosecutor said the products were stolen from the company’s YSJ store located in Ikere-Ekiti.
He added that the alleged offences contravened Sections 421, 324(1)(2) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendant, Oluwafemi Alabi, appealed to the court to admit his client to bail, assuring that he would not jump bail if granted the application.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was subsequently adjourned till June 22, 2026, for hearing.
