The National Space Research and Development Agency has commenced talks with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing on the integration of space technology solutions into locally manufactured vehicles.
The Director-General of NASRDA, Matthew Olumide Adepoju, led a team of technical directors on a strategic visit to the company’s facility in Nnewi.
The visit, according to the agency, is part of efforts to deepen collaboration between Nigeria’s space technology sector and indigenous manufacturing industries.
Discussions during the meeting centred on the possible deployment of satellite navigation systems, GPS tracking, geospatial mapping and smart mobility technologies in vehicles produced by the company.
The proposed partnership is also expected to focus on research and development aimed at advancing locally driven technological innovation in the automobile sector.
NASRDA said the collaboration aligns with its drive to commercialise space-based assets and expand the practical application of space technology for national development.
The agency noted that integrating satellite-powered solutions into locally assembled vehicles could improve transportation safety, vehicle monitoring and digital mobility systems across the country.
It added that the partnership could also create employment opportunities, reduce dependence on imported technologies and strengthen Nigeria’s indigenous industrial capacity
Officials at the meeting expressed optimism that the initiative would open a new phase of collaboration between science, technology and manufacturing sectors in Nigeria.
