The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ongoing 28.5-kilometre Aboto–Atijere Road project, revealing that about 15 kilometres of the strategic road have already been completed.
Chairman of OSOPADEC, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the project site, where he commended the contractor for what he described as impressive progress and quality delivery.
Poroye said the level of work done on the road had further boosted public confidence in the infrastructural development drive of the Ondo State Government.
According to him, the progress recorded on the project reflected the determination of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration to complete critical projects in the oil-producing communities.
“As regards the Aboto–Atijere Road, one thing is certain: when you walk with a determined mind, you can never be disappointed. The Governor is determined to complete this project and the contractor is equally determined,” he said.
The OSOPADEC chairman added, “When we got here today, we were happy with what we met on ground. They have covered 15 kilometres already and with the speed they are going, we are sure they will do us proud. We have assured the contractor of our support at every point in time.”
The Aboto–Atijere Road is regarded as one of the major infrastructure projects in the oil-producing axis of Ondo State and is expected to improve transportation, stimulate economic activities and enhance connectivity across the riverine communities.
Speaking on the technical progress of the project, the Director of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Dipo Aluko, disclosed that the road had reached about 50 per cent completion.
Aluko explained that the stone base currently covered 10.7 kilometres, while earthworks, drainage construction and other structural components had extended to about 14 kilometres.
“The work is tremendously progressing. The contractor has also been directed to commence asphalting on all stone-based areas, which presently covers about four kilometres,” he stated.
He further revealed that the project had undergone an upward review aimed at accelerating execution and ensuring quality delivery within the expected timeframe.
According to him, the review would significantly improve the speed of work and support the timely completion of the road project.
The development has continued to excite residents and stakeholders in the area, many of whom believe the road will transform economic and social activities in the affected communities.
