Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election was marred by rigging, insisting he possesses evidence to back his claim.
Lawal made the assertion during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Monday.
The former SGF, who said he personally monitored the exercise as a National Vice Chairman (North-East), dismissed counterclaims from supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, maintaining that the process was compromised from the outset.
“I have evidence. Don’t forget I was the National Vice Chairman (North-East). I was in the field during the exercise, so I know what happened,” he said.
He alleged that those aligned with Atiku were attempting to distort the facts surrounding the conduct of the primaries, adding that the irregularities were evident during the voting and collation stages.
“Atiku’s people are the ones not telling the truth about what transpired. We all saw what happened. I knew the primary was rigged while it was ongoing and even as results were being announced,” he stated.
The African Democratic Congress, African Democratic Congress (ADC), has recently been embroiled in internal disputes and competing claims over the conduct and legitimacy of its primaries, with key stakeholders trading accusations over transparency and fairness.
Lawal’s comments add to the growing political tension within the party as factions continue to differ on the credibility of the exercise and its outcomes.
