The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday while speaking to leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.
He said his continued stay in the Federal Executive Council would depend on his ability to deliver the FCT and Rivers State for the President at the election.
The former Rivers State governor said he would tender his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the presidential poll, if Tinubu lost either of the two areas.
Wike said, “If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT.”
He added that holding political office came with the responsibility to produce measurable results, stressing that he would not remain in office if he failed to achieve the expected electoral outcome.
The minister also disclosed plans for a multi-party political coalition in the FCT to support candidates across various elective positions, including Tinubu for the presidency.
Wike further endorsed former FCT senator, Philip Aduda, for the Senate, as well as two former area council chairmen contesting seats in the House of Representatives, while assuring the traders and mechanics of continued engagement over issues surrounding relocation and land allocation in the Apo area.
