Security operatives have arrested a suspected informant accused of providing intelligence to bandits operating around Romo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar from Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was allegedly linked to criminal elements operating in the Tambuwal axis.
Abubakar was reportedly connected to a threat issued to residents of Romo, with the community allegedly ordered to pay N10m or face an attack.
The development comes amid heightened security concerns in Tambuwal and neighbouring communities following reported cases of kidnapping and other attacks.
Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the suspect had already been arraigned before a court.
Rufai said the arrest followed investigations into Abubakar’s alleged activities and his suspected links with criminal groups operating in the area.
He assured residents that the police command would sustain efforts to identify and apprehend individuals providing support or information to criminal elements in the state.
Meanwhile, residents of affected communities have called for increased security presence and stronger intelligence-gathering operations to curb attacks and create conditions for displaced residents to return home.
