A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Kamoru Omokoye, was killed after gunmen attacked a bus stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
Omokoye was reportedly shot in the head around 9am on Sunday at Abijo Bus Stop by two men suspected to be cultists, who arrived at the scene in an unregistered Lexus RX 350.
A police source said the attackers opened fire on the victim before fleeing the area immediately after the incident.
Omokoye was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, for medical attention but was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
An anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra, said the victim was at a drinking spot near the bus stop when the assailants arrived and opened fire, adding that three other people sustained gunshot injuries.
The group said the deceased, popularly known as Zobo, had previously worked at Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop and was survived by an eight-month-old child.
Following the incident, detectives visited the scene and searched the surrounding area in an attempt to track down the fleeing attackers.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the killing, saying the command had commenced investigation into the incident.
