A 26-year-old social media activist, Folakemi Martins, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to her life following a public dispute with her former lover, Dennis Emmanuel.
Martins alleged that Emmanuel posted her two telephone numbers online after their disagreement over their relationship, exposing her to a barrage of calls and messages from people accusing her of being involved with a married man.
Speaking about the development, Martins said the situation had forced her to remain indoors, while members of her family had also allegedly been contacted and threatened over the controversy.
She said, “I can barely sleep at night. My phones have to be on DND because he doxxed my two numbers for bullying. Different numbers are calling and texting me day and night to threaten me to leave a married man alone and harm me, when I was never after him and his family.”
The dispute escalated after Emmanuel took to X to accuse Martins of harassment, stalking and attempts to tarnish his reputation and marriage. He acknowledged that the pair had a sexual relationship, but claimed that he had told her from the outset that he was married and was seeking a “side chick.”
Martins, however, disputed the claim, saying she met Emmanuel through a dating application where, according to her, he portrayed himself as interested in a serious relationship and a life partner.
She said she ended the relationship in August after becoming suspicious that he was seeing another woman.
The woman alleged that the threats started shortly after Emmanuel made the matter public and shared her contact details online. She also claimed that her relatives had received calls and messages connected to the dispute.
Martins said the development had left her afraid to go outside, adding that she had commenced legal proceedings against Emmanuel over alleged defamation and endangerment.
“I’m suing him for damaging my reputation and exposing me to danger. I want him to clear my name the same way he damaged it all over social media and pay heavily for the damage to my mental health,” she said.
She added that her lawyers would determine the amount of damages being sought, including expenses incurred for therapy.
Efforts to obtain Emmanuel’s response were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to his phone were unanswered at the time of filing this report.
