Abia govt denies spending N927m on Otti’s meals, others

The Abia State Government has debunked the reports going viral claiming that it spent a huge sum of N927 million for the State Governor Alex Otti’s meals, welfare packages and others in three months.

According to Daily Post,  the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the report is incorrect.

Reports had earlier appeared online claiming that a budget performance report showed that the government spent N927 million within three months on refreshments and meals, allowance, settlement of honorarium and welfare packages.

The reports indicated further that the Otti's administration spent N223,389,889.84 on refreshments and meals while N305,400,000.00 was spent on honorarium and sitting allowances for government officials within July and September 2023.

The report has led a cross section of Nigerians on social media wondered how such amount of money was spent in the space of three months.

Ekeoma, who disputed the allegation however, promised to revert with detailed response to the viral report by an online platform.

He said, “The report is incorrect, there was nothing like that and we will do an official response to that.”
