Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, is set to host its 52nd Inaugural Lecture as Prof. Adeleke Omodunmbi Ashogbon of the Department of Chemistry mounts the podium on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The Inaugural Lecture series, considered one of the highest academic traditions of the institution, provides a platform for accomplished scholars to distill years of research and highlight their contributions to knowledge and national development.
Prof. Ashogbon will speak on the topic, “From Root to Revolution: The Chemistry and Innovation of Modified Starches,” a lecture expected to shed light on scientific breakthroughs with wide-ranging applications in food technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and environmentally sustainable materials.
The event is scheduled for the University Multipurpose Hall.
In a statement released by the Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, guests are requested to be seated by 1:30 pm, with the lecture commencing at 2:00 pm promptly.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will chair the ceremony.
A seasoned academic, Prof. Ashogbon earned his B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Lagos in 1992 and returned to the institution for his M.Sc. in Chemistry in 2000.
He later completed his Ph.D. at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, in 2015.
He joined AAUA as an Assistant Lecturer in 2003 and rose steadily through the ranks, becoming a Professor in 2021.
Over the years, he has served in key administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences (2023–2025), Postgraduate Coordinator, and Coordinator of the University Central Research Laboratory.
A prolific researcher, Prof. Ashogbon has authored a scholarly book and published 44 peer-reviewed articles in reputable international and local journals.
He also reviews for leading global journals such as Food Chemistry and the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules. Notably, a study by Stanford University and Elsevier ranked him among the world’s top 2% of scientists.
His academic visibility extends to international conferences in Ghana, India, and the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Conference.
He is also a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chemical Society of Nigeria. In 2013/2014, he was voted Best Lecturer in his department by the Students’ Chemical Society of Nigeria.
Prof. Ashogbon’s upcoming lecture is expected to attract academics, industry players, and research enthusiasts eager to engage with his contributions to chemical innovation and sustainable materials science.
