The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state.
The assurance was contained in an address delivered on his behalf by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, during the official closing ceremony and passing-out parade of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ orientation course on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
The Governor cited the recent approval of the construction of new hostel accommodation for corps members, noting that work would commence shortly. According to him, the project reflects the state government’s continuous efforts to improve the living and working conditions of young Nigerians posted to Ondo State for national service.
He added that the government maintains strong partnership with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of corps members throughout their service year.
The Governor appealed to corps employers across the state to warmly receive the newly assigned corps members and provide an environment where they can thrive.
He urged employers to offer guidance, encourage innovative ideas and support the leadership development of the youths posted to their organisations.
Similarly, he called on Local Government authorities, traditional rulers and community leaders to extend the necessary support that will enable corps members to execute meaningful Community Development Service (CDS) projects that uplift their host communities.
While urging the corps members to uphold discipline, dedication and hard work, the governor said, “As you proceed into the next phase of your national service, remember that this period carries significant responsibility. The nation expects you to contribute to unity, development and national progress”
He commended their enthusiasm during the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programmes and encouraged them to take advantage of post-camp training to build sustainable livelihoods after their service year.
The Governor also advised them to prioritize their personal safety, avoid late-night outings, steer clear of unsafe environments and refrain from accepting rides from strangers.
He warned against involvement in drug abuse, cybercrime, financial fraud and other social vices, while reminding them that their conduct reflects on their families, institutions and the NYSC scheme.
He further stressed that participation in local politics by corps members remains strictly prohibited.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of commendation letters to two camp officials for their outstanding performance during the orientation course.
The camp officials were Inspector Yusuf Johnson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and Miss Aminu Taiwo of the NYSC.
