The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Thursday hosted Christian faithful under the umbrella of the Christian Association of Nigeria to a Christmas fun-fair in Okeagbe Akoko, Ondo State.
The event, which formed part of activities to mark the yuletide season, drew CAN members from across the state who gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in an atmosphere of joy, fellowship and prayers.
Represented at the occasion by Hon. Fafunmilade Adetilewa, the minister described Christmas as a period of reflection, love and sacrifice, urging Christians to use the season to offer spiritual support for the nation.
He called on believers to pray for peace, unity and national progress, noting that Nigeria requires collective goodwill and divine intervention to overcome its challenges.
The minister added that beyond the festivities, Christmas should remind Christians of their responsibility to promote peace, demonstrate compassion and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
The guest speaker, the Rt. Rev. Bada, who is also the Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, commended Tunji-Ojo for what he described as his remarkable performance as Minister of Interior.
According to him, “Tunji-Ojo is a child of convenant, he is a chosen vessel by God. That is why the ministry he is heading is striving. He is just starting; he is going higher.”
The Chairman of CAN in Ondo State, the Very Rev. Father Anslem Ologunwa, who was represented by the state Secretary of CAN, Most Superior Rotimi Amos, urged leaders at all levels to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ by being selfless, just and people-oriented in their leadership.
He stressed that leadership anchored on the fear of God remains key to good governance and societal stability.
Ologunwa also commended the minister for identifying with the Christian community during the festive period, describing the fun-fair as a platform that promotes unity and reinforces shared values of faith, love and service.
The celebration featured Christmas carols, prayers for the nation and interaction among Christian faithful from across the senatorial district, bringing the event to a close in the true spirit of Christmas.
