Japa: Opportunity for Nigerians as Canada to recruit 32,000 workers, to pay up to N46,000 per hour

has opened plans to recruit about 32,000 nationwide ahead of its scheduled for May, with successful applicants set to earn as much as $31.32 per hour, equivalent to about N46,000.

, the country’s national statistics agency, disclosed that the mass recruitment is part of preparations for the exercise, which is conducted every five years to generate data used for planning healthcare, education, housing, transportation and other critical public services.

The agency said the jobs are open to individuals who are legally adults in their province or territory, are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or hold valid work permits, provided they reside in Canada and have a Canadian home address.

According to Statistics Canada, the recruitment will cover both supervisory and non-supervisory roles, with employment periods and work schedules varying depending on location and assignment. Most of the positions involve fieldwork, including direct engagement with households, with much of the work expected to take place during evenings and weekends.

Available roles include , , crew leader assistants, field operations supervisor assistants and collection support unit operators. The majority of successful applicants are expected to be assigned as enumerators or crew leaders.

Enumerators are responsible for collecting census data by visiting households and following up on non-responses, typically working between 20 and 40 hours per week from May to July 2026. Crew leaders, who supervise enumerators and coordinate field activities, are expected to work about 40 hours weekly from March to July 2026.

Statistics Canada stated that enumerators will earn $25.87 per hour, while crew leaders will receive $31.32 per hour. In addition to wages, workers may claim authorised job-related expenses, including and , where travel is required to complete assignments.

The agency explained that interested applicants must pass several stages, including screening, reference checks, interviews for supervisory roles and , noting that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Applications are to be submitted online through the , with recruitment running from November 4, 2025, to July 31, 2026. Statistics Canada advised prospective applicants to apply early, as hiring timelines will vary across provinces and territories.
