Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, effectively relieving all commissioners and special advisers of their duties.
The governor, while announcing the decision on Thursday, thanked members of the cabinet for what he described as their contributions and service to the state.
A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said the affected officials had been directed to hand over immediately to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries.
The abrupt dissolution comes amid ongoing political developments in the state.
Barely two days earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, confirmed renewed reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the lingering political rift in Rivers State.
Wike disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently convened a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with major political actors from the state, including Governor Fubara and his predecessor.
The closed-door session, which also had other Rivers stakeholders in attendance, was part of moves to ease tensions stemming from the protracted power struggle in the oil-rich state.
Although no official reason was given for the cabinet’s dissolution, the move is widely viewed as a strategic step within the evolving political landscape in Rivers.
