The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed work on the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, despite the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act by the National Assembly.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), assuring that the commission is prepared to conduct the elections as planned.
“Although we have submitted our proposals to the National Assembly, certain elements of the timetable may be affected depending on when the amended Electoral Act is passed,” Amupitan said.
He added that, in the meantime, the commission will rely on the existing Electoral Act to guide its preparations and ensure that key activities stay on schedule.
The commission’s completion of the election timetable underscores its determination to adhere to electoral timelines, despite legislative delays that could affect some processes.
Amupitan further reiterated INEC’s commitment to holding free, fair, and credible elections, noting that ongoing consultations with CSOs are aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
The commission is expected to release the detailed timetable and activity schedule in the coming weeks, providing stakeholders with a roadmap for the 2027 elections.
