Three people have reportedly sustained injuries after suspected hoodlums attacked the palace of the Alale of Akungba, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Thursday during a traditional Gbugbugbu dance associated with a burial ceremony in Ilale, Akungba-Akoko.
Sources said the suspected attackers allegedly stormed the palace with guns, sticks and stones, leaving three people injured in the process.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. It was also not immediately known whether the police had made any arrests or the condition of the injured persons.
The incident was reported to the police, while the alleged perpetrators were said to have been identified.
Reacting to the development, the monarch, Oba Adu, appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid any action capable of escalating tensions in the community.
The traditional ruler assured the people that appropriate steps would be taken to address the incident, urging residents to allow the relevant authorities to handle the matter through lawful means.
He also called on the people to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing the need to protect lives and property and preserve the peace of Akungba-Akoko.
