A Nigerian father, Arogundade Adewale, has expressed joy and gratitude after his daughter, currently serving under the National Youth Service Corps, presented him with her first monthly allowance.

The touching moment was captured in a video shared on TikTok, where the corps member, clad in her NYSC uniform, was seen kneeling as she handed the money to her father.

In the clip, Adewale collected N7,000 from the amount and returned the remaining balance to his daughter, offering prayers and words of blessing.

He captioned the video, “My daughter brought her first NYSC salary to me,” adding the Yoruba phrase, “Ounje omo ni,” meaning, “This is the fruit of my labour.”

The gesture reflects a long-standing cultural practice in many Nigerian homes, where children present their first earnings to their parents as a mark of appreciation and to receive parental blessings.

The tradition has also been publicly endorsed by Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, who has repeatedly encouraged young people to give their first salary to their fathers as a symbolic act of honour and gratitude.
