Fire razes APC woman leader’s residence, two land in hospital

A fire outbreak on Tuesday night destroyed a section of the residence of the All Progressives Congress Zonal Woman Leader, Hajiya Fatima Mairiga, in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The incident occurred in the Don Etiebet area of the city and left two persons injured, while property worth millions of naira was reportedly damaged.

The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Mohammed Goje, confirmed the development in an interview on Wednesday.

He said the agency received a distress call around 8pm and promptly deployed its emergency response team to the scene.

According to him, officials acted swiftly to put out the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

Goje disclosed that two individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident but were immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.

He added that both victims have since been treated and discharged in stable condition.

The SEMA boss noted that the timely intervention of the agency’s personnel helped to reduce the extent of the damage.
