An abducted principal in Oyo State, Mrs. Alamu, has appealed to the Federal Government, Governor Seyi Makinde and well-meaning Nigerians to secure the release of students and staff members kidnapped during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The appeal followed the emergence of a distress video released from captivity, raising fresh fears over the safety of the victims abducted during the Friday attack.
In the video seen on Sunday, the visibly distressed school administrator said the victims had remained in the custody of their abductors since the invasion of the schools.
She explained that gunmen stormed the area around 9:30am and abducted several staff members and students.
Mrs. Alamu pleaded for urgent intervention to ensure that the captives were rescued safely and without bloodshed.
The victims were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele, both located in Oriire Local Government Area.
Earlier, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed the attacks, disclosing that armed men riding motorcycles invaded the schools and forcefully whisked away pupils, students and workers.
The police also confirmed the killing of an assistant headmaster, Mr. Adesiyan, during the incident.
An okada rider was also reportedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the attackers to seize his motorcycle.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to rescue the victims, with the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said to be coordinating tactical and intelligence operations across the affected communities.
The Oyo State Government has also directed the reopening of schools in Oriire and neighbouring local government areas following the deployment of additional security personnel to the area.
