Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, will on Wednesday inaugurate Prof. Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as its seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor, following the completion of the tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige.
The institution disclosed this in a statement issued by its Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Victor Akinpelumi, announcing that the handover ceremony would hold at 10 a.m. at the university's Multipurpose Hall.
Obamuyi's appointment was approved by Ondo State Governor and Visitor to the university, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, after he emerged as the preferred candidate from a field of 15 professors screened by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
A Professor of Finance, Obamuyi brings more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research and university administration. He obtained a doctorate in Management Science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2005 and later earned a Certificate in Financial Technology from New York University Stern School of Business in 2019.
Throughout his academic career, he has supervised dozens of postgraduate students, served as an external examiner for more than 200 postgraduate oral examinations within and outside Nigeria, and assessed numerous candidates for professorial appointments across several universities.
His administrative experience includes serving as Acting Head of the Department of Banking and Finance and Director of Linkages and International Programmes at AAUA. He also became the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at FUTA and later served as Director of the University's Advancement Centre.
Obamuyi has also held visiting professorial appointments at the University of Lagos, Lagos State University of Science and Technology and Redeemer's University, where he contributed to teaching and research development.
The incoming vice-chancellor has led and participated in several locally and internationally funded research projects, including grants supported by TETFund, USAID and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. He has authored more than 80 scholarly publications and presented research papers at conferences in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
In recognition of his contributions to academia, he received the Africa Education Leadership Award as the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Entrepreneurship Scholars and the Nigerian Society for Financial Research, among other professional bodies.
The university described Obamuyi as an accomplished scholar and administrator whose extensive experience, research achievements and institutional knowledge are expected to strengthen its academic and administrative growth.
The institution invited members of the university community, alumni, stakeholders and the public to attend the inauguration ceremony.
