Home lesson teacher, father remanded over alleged sexual abuse pupil, daughter

A 52-year-old home lesson teacher, Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, has been remanded in custody over the alleged defilement of his 13-year-old pupil in Edo State.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Wednesday while parading suspects arrested for various offences in Benin City.

Daaor said the suspect was engaged by the victim’s family as a home lesson teacher but allegedly abused the trust reposed in him by sexually assaulting the child.

According to the commissioner, the alleged offence occurred on August 5, 2026, while the suspect was subsequently charged before the Benin High Court on August 14 after investigation.

He added that Okhuilegbe was remanded at the Oko Correctional Centre, Benin City, pending further proceedings.

The police commissioner also disclosed the remand of a 42-year-old man accused of raping his 15-year-old daughter at Iyahmo, in the Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

He said the alleged offence was committed on August 6, adding that the suspect was transferred to the state police headquarters for investigation before being arraigned and remanded on August 14.

Daaor further announced the arrest of a 26-year-old man, Otaru Jonathan, over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Afokpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.

He said preliminary investigation showed that Jonathan allegedly took the girl on a motorcycle to an uncompleted building, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her before giving her N2,000.

“The survivor was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and attention. The suspect was arrested and remains in custody,” the commissioner said.

Daaor added that investigation into the latest case was ongoing and that the suspect would be arraigned after the conclusion of the investigation.
