Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress spent about N60bn to influence voters during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
Fayose made the allegation on Monday during an interview with News Central Television, claiming that the funds used for the alleged vote-buying came from public resources.
He questioned how the APC could have secured what he described as a significant number of votes without allegedly inducing voters, while also faulting the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for failing to curb electoral malpractice.
Fayose further alleged that armoured vehicles were deployed in attempts to manipulate the electoral process, accusing the security agencies of failing to protect the integrity of the election.
“The APC bought votes worth about N60bn. When you buy votes worth N60bn, where did they get this money from?” he asked.
He also accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of failing to investigate what he described as suspicious financial activities surrounding the election.
According to Fayose, the electorate resisted alleged attempts to compromise the poll, insisting that the APC would not have polled up to 100,000 votes in a free and fair election.
“You and I know it. They don’t love them; they don’t like them. So, vote-buying made them get that figure,” he stated.
