The All Progressives Congress in Ward 09, Oke-Iserin, Igboora, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State, has expelled a former three-term member of the House of Representatives, Dr Saubana Ajibola Muraina, following his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Muraina, who represented the Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, recently emerged as the PDP candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general election after losing the APC ticket to Olaoniye Sarafa Olaito.
The ward executives announced the expulsion after an emergency meeting in Igboora, with the decision contained in a statement signed by the ward chairman, Fasasi Mustapha, and secretary, Afolabi Abiodun.
The APC leaders accused Muraina of abandoning the party after failing to secure its ticket and subsequently joining the PDP, where he is now seeking election to the same federal constituency.
They also alleged that despite his defection, the former lawmaker continued to present himself as an APC member, saying the action could create confusion and deepen divisions within the party at the ward and local government levels.
The ward executives said Muraina’s conduct amounted to a violation of provisions of the APC constitution dealing with anti-party activities and actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute.
The statement said the expulsion took immediate effect and that Muraina was no longer recognised as a member or leader of the APC at the ward, local government, state or national levels.
The ward leadership said the expulsion notice had been forwarded through the local government party chairman to the Oyo State APC chairman for ratification, after which it would be sent to the National Working Committee in Abuja.
Muraina first won election to the House of Representatives in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011 and 2019.
He had previously moved from the PDP to the APC in 2022 and contested the 2023 House of Representatives election on the APC platform.
