Strike continues at UNIMED as ASUU rejects Ondo govt's pact with sister varsity

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, has commenced an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and payment of outstanding arrears.

The industrial action took effect on August 27 after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management and the Ondo State Government by the union.

The decision was contained in a communique issued after the union’s congress and signed by the branch chairman, Abraham Oladebeye, and secretary, Adeniran Akinola.

According to the union, the ultimatum elapsed without the implementation of the agreement or payment of accrued arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.

ASUU-UNIMEDO consequently directed its members to withdraw from all academic activities, including lectures, continuous assessments, examinations, seminars, students’ research supervision, industrial training supervision and fieldwork.

The directive also covers departmental, faculty, committee and Senate meetings, whether conducted physically or virtually.

The union said the strike would continue until the agreement was fully implemented and all outstanding arrears paid, while adding that members would also comply with any subsequent directive from the union’s National Executive Council.

ASUU-UNIMEDO further directed its Branch Executive Committee to activate the Branch Strike Coordinating Committee to monitor compliance with the action. As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ondo State Government nor the university management had issued an official response.
