Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has appealed to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, for forgiveness and reconciliation following his role in the political disagreements that trailed the last All Progressives Congress primary election.
Elliot made the appeal during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other APC leaders, where he reportedly knelt and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives while expressing remorse over his actions.
In a video shared on X by Lagos Junction on Sunday, the Surulere Constituency I lawmaker admitted that he had no justification for his conduct, saying he might have been wrongly guided during the political crisis.
“I'm sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I'm deeply sorry. I'm deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don't be angry, Daddy,” Elliot said.
Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to rise, as Elliot sought to mend his relationship with his political mentor and reaffirm his commitment to the party's leadership.
The latest apology is not the first time the actor-turned-politician has expressed regret to Gbajabiamila. Elliot had previously apologised during an appearance on TVC's Your View, saying he could have offended the former Speaker in the course of his political activities.
Explaining his relationship with Gbajabiamila, Elliot said he regarded him as an elder brother and acknowledged his influence on his political career. He added that any disagreement between them was not deliberate.
The lawmaker said, “To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I'm sorry, my daddy, if I've offended you in any way.”
The development followed political tensions surrounding the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Gbajabiamila had previously disclosed that allegations concerning Elliot's political activities had created difficulties for him at the Presidency.
He had said President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging that Elliot was involved in efforts connected with the speakership dispute, an allegation the lawmaker denied.
The Assembly crisis, which exposed divisions within the Lagos APC, was later brought under control after interventions by senior party figures.
