A Lagos mechanic, identified as Samson, has reportedly been killed after he was invited to Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki, to repair a Mercedes-Benz and allegedly taken into a bush where he was attacked.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 15, after the mechanic, who ran a workshop around Warike Estate, received a request to work on the vehicle.
According to a police source, Samson arrived at the location expecting to repair the car but was allegedly led away into a bush, where he was hacked to death.
The source said detectives had commenced investigation into the circumstances of the killing and were working to identify those behind the attack, adding that cult-related activity was suspected.
The source said, “The victim was lured to the location on the pretext of going to repair a Mercedes-Benz car. We were told that when he got there, he was taken into the bush and killed.”
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy group linked the incident to an alleged reprisal attack following the killing of an Eiye member, Ola Sheu, around Adeba Bus Stop in Lakowe on September 9.
The group alleged that Sheu was killed by members of a rival cult group and claimed Samson was subsequently targeted as part of a retaliatory attack. The claim has not been independently established.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the case, saying the victim’s family initially reported him missing.
She said detectives had visited his residence and were making efforts to trace his phone and determine what happened to him, as the investigation continued.
