Tinubu speaks on health after returning to Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed speculation about his health, declaring that he is fit and ready to resume his official duties after returning to Nigeria from his extended working vacation in Europe.

Tinubu made the clarification on Tuesday shortly after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France, where he had spent the latter part of his trip. He spoke to journalists amid public concerns that had emerged during his prolonged stay abroad.

Responding to questions about his health at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the President said there was nothing wrong with him and attributed the rumours to political activities.

“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong. Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” Tinubu said.

The President had left Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation in Europe, initially travelling to London before proceeding to Paris. The Presidency subsequently announced an extension of his stay by a few days.

During his absence, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs from abroad.

His return followed weeks of public discussion over his prolonged stay outside the country, including criticism of his absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Presidency had earlier described him as hale and hearty and said he was continuing to work while abroad.

Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for official engagements and activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary before returning to Abuja.
