Former APC chieftain found dead with slit throat

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected killing of a former All Progressives Congress Women Leader in Bauchi South, Jemimah Dutse.

Dutse, 49, was reportedly discovered dead in her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi, with an injury to her throat.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

According to Habib, the incident was reported at the ‘E’ Division on October 3, 2026, after a man residing in the area discovered Dutse’s lifeless body inside her home.

The police said officers from the division immediately visited the residence, documented the scene and evacuated the remains to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.

Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police ordered the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed investigation.

The PPRO said detectives had been directed to establish what led to Dutse’s death, identify those responsible and bring the suspected perpetrators to justice.

The command appealed for calm while the investigation continues and expressed condolences to the deceased’s relatives, friends and political associates.

Habib assured members of the public that the police would pursue the case and communicate further developments as the investigation progresses.

The incident adds to recent concerns over the killing of political figures in parts of the North. In November 2025, an APC chieftain in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, was reportedly killed by suspected bandits along the Gusau-Tsafe road while travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
