President Bola Tinubu has said he may not attend all campaign rallies ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council to handle mobilisation across the country while he focuses on governance.
Tinubu spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the council in Abuja, stressing that Nigeria’s current challenges required his attention beyond campaign activities.
He said he accepted the advice that an intensive campaign schedule should not interfere with his responsibilities as President.
“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” he said.
The President cited the country’s financial commitments and the need to attract foreign investors as reasons he might not accompany party leaders to every campaign event.
“We have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he added, expressing hope that investors would commit to long-term projects capable of improving the future of Nigerians.
Tinubu, however, assured the public that he would continue to communicate directly with Nigerians while the council coordinated the party’s campaign activities across states and local government areas.
He described the council’s inauguration as a renewed commitment to the electorate and urged members to present the administration’s policies, achievements and agenda to voters.
The President also commended APC members for completing the party’s congresses, saying the party had overcome predictions of internal division and remained united through the process.
